Registration

About the Registration Process:

We are delighted that the 2008 event will once again be held at Silverstone Circuit on Thursday 10 th to Sunday 13 th July 2008. Registration closed on 28 March 2008 with 118 teams registered.

As we are limited to 88 running cars, we have a Reserve List. The top 5 Reserve teams will go through scrutineering, be judged and go through the dynamic events. Any teams below this will still be able to attend but will not be given an official Reserve space unless another team withdraws.

Please note that your place will not be confirmed until we receive payment. If your payment has agreed to be accepted after the deadline of 28 March 2008, between yourselves and the FS staff at IMechE , it will be subject to a £50.00 administration fee.

Registration Fees:

1 running car**: Class 1, 1(A) or 1(200 Series) = £1,000+VAT = £1,175.00 (includes 25 team members**)

2 running cars †: 2 of the following - Class 1, 1(A) and 1(200 Series) = £1,500+VAT = £1,762.50 (includes 35 team members †)

Class 2 Only = £200+VAT = £235.00 (includes 5 team members)

Class 3 Only = £200+VAT = £235.00 (includes 5 team members)

Please note:

** Any Class 1, 1(A) or 1(200 Series) entry in these categories can consist of the following options, however each option has a maximum of up to 25 team members in total:
• Any Class 1, 1(A) or 1(200 Series) Team or
• Any Class 1, 1(A) or 1(200 Series) and Class 2 entry or
• Any Class 1, 1(A) or 1(200 Series) and Class 3 entry or

• Any Class 1, 1(A) or 1(200 Series) Class 2 and Class 3 entry

† 2 running cars in this category can consist of the following options, however each option has a maximum of up to 35 team members in total:
• A Class 1 Team and Class 1(A) Team or
• A Class 1 Team and Class 1 (200 Series) Team or

• A Class 1(A) Team and Class 1 (200 Series) Team or
• A Class 1 and Class 1 (200 Series), Class 2 and Class 3 entry or

• A Class 1 and Class 1 (200 Series), and Class 2 entry or
• A Class 1 and Class 1 (200 Series), and Class 3 entry or

• A Class 1 and Class 1(A), Class 2 and Class 3 entry or
• A Class 1 and Class 1(A), and Class 2 entry or
• A Class 1 and Class 1(A), and Class 3 entry or

• A Class 1(A) and Class 1 (200 Series), Class 2 and Class 3 entry or
• A Class 1(A) and Class 1 (200 Series), and Class 2 entry or
• A Class 1(A) and Class 1 (200 Series), and Class 3 entry

Additional Team Members need to pay £25.00 +VAT per person (£29.38 in total).

How to Pay for Additional Team Members:

You will be able to pay online by 16 June 2008 . If Additional Team Members do not pay by this date, they will have to pay an extra fee when registering at the competition in July (all team member names will be collected before the competition). Please email Fiona Edgeler: f_edgeler@imeche.org if you would like to make your payment by cheque, invoice or BACS (the details for these are below).

How to Pay your Registration Fee:

You can pay by credit card. This is the quickest way to pay.

If you wish to pay by cheque , please post to Fiona Edgeler, IMechE, 1 Birdcage Walk, London, SW1H 9JJ (Please make cheques payable to “Institution of Mechanical Engineers”).

If you require an invoice , please allow sufficient time for the process to be completed. A team’s place cannot be confirmed until payment of invoice has been received. Please note that there is a £10.00 (+ VAT) administration fee for this service.

Please WRITE YOUR UNIVERSITY’S NAME on the bank transfer. If your university’s name is not marked on the bank transfer’s title, we will not be able to identify whether your university has paid.

We require you to submit a copy of bank confirmation as proof of purchase.

Cancellation Policy:

Please note that if you withdraw or change class before 28 March 2008, your fee will be refunded. No refund will be given if you withdraw or change class after 28 March 2008.

IMechE Grants:

9 universities have received a generous grant from IMechE to compete in FS2008 and other FSAE events. Grants for 2009 will be advertised on the website in September 2008.

Membership Requirements:

Students have to be a member of any of the FISITA member societies. These include IMechE, SAE and VDI. Please allow sufficient time to become a member as you might have to wait a while to receive your number once you have submitted your form.

IMechE Affiliate Membership is free for all students

How to Apply for a Visa:

If you need a Visa to come to the UK competition, please send a list of all of your team members and Faculty Advisor’s names with your university details to Fiona Edgeler at f_edgeler@imeche.org so that an official letter can be sent to you, inviting your team to the competition. You will need to give the letter and your passports to the British Embassy in your country ASAP for them to give you a Visa.

How to Ship your Car to Silverstone:

The shipping address is as follows: Neil Carr-Jones c/o Silverstone Circuits Ltd., Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire NN12 8TN, United Kingdom. The earliest date that crates can be received will be confirmed nearer the time.
