Judges and Volunteers
Volunteer roles for 2010
Do you have relevant experience on one of the below areas? Do you work in the engineering industry? Could you pass on your expertise to students?
Static Judging (Thursday and Friday):
* Design
* Class 1A
* Cost
* Sustainability
* Business Presentation
On the ground:
* Scrutineering (Thursday-Sunday)
* Dynamic Support (Friday-Sunday)
* General Volunteer (Wednesday pm-Sunday)
Skills required
* For the main judging roles a minimum two years in industry is an advantage, happy to work with students from all over the world, interest in investing time to develop students practical knowledge
* Class 1A – a working knowledge of alternative energy e.g hybrids, electric, bio ethanol
* Sustainability and Cost – knowledge of cost engineering
* Scrutineering/dynamic support – experience of the competition is an advantage so ex-FS competitors welcome
* General volunteers – to provide support to the IMechE event crew for a range of tasks. For more information email the team. Are you an FS graduate, could you give VIPs tours of Silverstone and explain what is going on?

All Judging teams will take on a ‘rookie’ as part of their team so on the job learning can take place. To become a rookie for 2010 please get in touch with Hazel Morgan
How to get involved
Email the FS team now and we can let you know what roles are available and can send you some more information of what is needed from you.
Expenses
Before agreeing to judge at the event please note that it is hoped that all volunteers will either cover their own expenses, or have them covered by their own company/employer.
This is to keep costs manageable and to help keep FS team registration fees down, hence it will not be possible for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers to cover volunteer expenses, except in particular circumstances for highly-experienced individuals (see the Judges Expenses Policy [PDF] for more information.)
Past events
Thank you to all the Judges and Officials that came to Silverstone this year. Read the Who's Who [PDF] to see the range of volunteers at the event.

Ambassadors
Are you interested in promoting engineering? Are you an IMechE member?
Ambassadors are volunteers who work with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers to develop awareness and understanding on what engineering is all about.
Also, if you are a young member and you commit 100+ hours a year you are entitled to free training. If you volunteer on Formula Student you are already on your way.
